Aluminium Tube Bending

At JDR we offer a wide range of aluminium tube fabrication options for aluminium tube. One of the most versatile services we provide is aluminium tube bending.

The right bending method can make a big difference to performance, appearance and cost.

Aluminium Tube Bending Methods

There are several ways to bend aluminium tube. The best choice depends on your application, required radius and finish. The main methods include mandrel bending, crush bending, pressure bending, and roller bending.

Mandrel Bending: Ideal when the tube must retain its exact shape. A flexible mandrel sits inside the tube during the process. It supports the internal wall and prevents collapse or distortion. This method is perfect for tight tolerances and high-quality finishes.

Crush Bending: Works well for medium to large diameter tubes. It is a good option when you need a tighter bend radius. During bending, the outer wall stretches while the inner wall compresses. These forces can limit how tight the bend can be. Crush bending overcomes this by slightly indenting the inner wall. This reduces stress and allows for tighter, cleaner bends.

Pressure Bending: Uses hydraulic force to shape the tube. The tube wraps around a fixed metal form, which sets the bend radius. This form supports the tube and maintains its profile. Hydraulic arms apply steady pressure to achieve the desired angle. You can also create multiple bends by passing the tube through the process more than once.

Roller Bending: Best for large radius bends. It is commonly used to produce hoops, rings and arches with high accuracy. This method also works well with swaged tubes. As a result, it is ideal for creating collapsible structures that are easier to transport and assemble.
